B10. Try opposite of what others do

Most of us keep following what successful persons have done or what others are doing.

While what the author generally choose to follow in his business or life is the other way round

To illustrate author wish to share a real life example:
He used to visit trade show in Taiwan, where there are huge number of foreign visitors like us.
Since all exit on end of show about same time so there is long queue that getting a cab may take about 2-3 hours.
Hardly anyone can speak English there or it is very difficult to get direction from passer by.
Hotel Shuttle usually not available when we have finished.
We don’t know local transport system and directions so its tough to reach back hotel.
So the challenge was -how can he reach back hotel faster and that too on normal cost, in a place where no one understands us and we don’t understand the place?

Few ways perhaps are:
Either you leave the show earlier so limited time is not fully utilized.
Or arranged a private car-which may be too expensive
Or Stay in hotel near the expo which may be too expensive or worst may not be available.
So what shall he do to attend full show n still reach back hotel on normal cost and in normal time?

What will you do?
Think and write:

What author use to do?

Similar other illustration:
There was a show of a very popular singer Sonu Nigam in Suntec. Huge crowd watching it .During interval everyone need to go to toilet so there is huge queue.
Option 1- wait in long queue
Option 2- take a lift and go down.

I also joined the lift.
While all others headed to ground floor.
I simply get down on 5th floor and relaxed freely. When each floor has toilet why go all the way to ground floor n especially when all are going there?
By thinking little out of the way, I saved time smartly.

When I was selling mobiles, most of people will sell Nokia which is most popular, I never sold it. Or some will sell everything which ever people want it. I focused on brands which were not popular that time like Sony Ericsson and O2 and build up with them.

When we use to distribute PC items, we use to sell printers. While most of trader will sell HP or Canon or Epson I sold only one printer throughout which was Lexmark.

While all competitors used to source from Taiwan in 90s I went to china to buyer better but cheaper products. I hardly bought any things from Taiwan.

When everyone was running for India market, I shifted my focused on Nepal and in fact at some point of time became the largest supplier of memories in India; the reason whole of business was channeled via Nepal to India.

When everyone was rushing to India flair to go regional, despite being Indian I remained local and focused in Singapore and become no 1 in Sim Lim square.

When everyone was running for residential property in Singapore upto extent like mad, I focused only on commercial.

When everyone was focusing on lower levels in simlim square to buy at higher prices, I focused on least used 6th floor and got better price and transformed it which give me much better returns on investment.

When everyone was focusing on selling, I was buying and when everyone was buying, I started selling.

When everyone goes same route, the things are same more or less the same. Suppose you going to airport, no matter how fast you can run or drive, you are limited by the jam or queue on road. But suppose if someone take a route which is longer but free of jam-they will generally end up earlier in our destination even though may have spend a little more petrol.

So think and decide are you going to take crowded downtown route or can find expressway by trying opposite of what others do.
