B9. Accept the Opportunity when it knocks your door

The whole life we keep waiting for opportunity but many of us bluntly refuses- when it comes to our door.
And then we regrets whole of life.

It’s something like interview:
1st we are struggling for job-any job is ok
When we get a job- we become so choosy about small things like time or distance or post or many other things which may not be so important.

Worse many time we refuse opportunity which comes our door in hope of something which may never come.

Happened same to me
In our TV show we offered funding to our all contestants despite numerous limitations in capability and even executions as we know we can make them successful. But 50% of our 1st round contestants refused the opportunity given.

If Many times for financing you may need investor and most of us keep us running for it but when someone willing to invest then we becomes too choosy or demanding making it unworkable

Why shall we partner?

We normally partner when we don’t have some skill set for what we want to do. Either we have to hire someone or partner with someone who has it

Same way if we don’t have capital, we may take investor to it
No doubt that is best to fund yourself and hold 100% equity with you provided you have capital for it. There is no logic of sharing with someone.

But if you don’t have capital then it is better to be flexible to have a good deal to investor. Remember that who is investing with you is taking a blind risk. He may loose everything.

Remember 100% of Zero is still Zero.

So even if you own 100% of something which cannot start off, it is as good as nothing.
But even 50% of something is still a good deal-if you can get it off to start your business.

Try to Understand Investor Viewpoint also. When someone puts money, they may need to control some management or especially fund spending, and for that they may be looking at majority shareholding.
How to trust in this materialistic world where even our close circles may not trust us.

We shall value the trust of investor.  An investor in general won’t try to kick you out as he always needs someone like you who can multiply his money.

Worst of it, a lot of time deals get stuck only on 1% -means who shall have 51 % of shares. Till 50:50 they may be both happy but when it become 51:49 many times deal blow off.
Each of them wants majority.

There is no sure shot formula that who shall have majority

It is about who need who more so it has to be carefully worked upon.

Whatever it is, but don’t make it a deal breaker and refusing the opportunity when it is knocking on your door.
